Daniel Conrad, conraddk@telcel.net.ve To: Confessional Lutherans in Missionary Boldness, CLiMB@CAT41.org Venezuelan News ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Dear Fellow Redeemed, Let us give thanks to the Lord for our mission in Venezuela and for your support. St. Paul exhorts us with these words, "Pray without ceasing." Oftentimes prayer seems to be obsolete in this modern age. We tend to think that the more active we are, the more productive we are in God's kingdom. St. Paul's exhortation continues to be relevant in our day and age. Prayer must be an integral part of the lives of the servants of the Lord as they serve God in all parts of the world. The Venezuelan elcctions took place yesterday and everything went peacefully. Whether the elected government will improve the situation in Venezuela remains to be seen. We thank the Lord that there was no attempt to overthrow the government during the elcctions. The big news in Valencia is that we have finally started our building project! At the present time the wall that will surround the property is being constructed. To be sure, a building project brings challenges and frustrations, but at least we have started. By the grace of God our project will come off successfully. On the 16th of this month, the Mielkes celebrated their last worship service in Barinas. The congregation, Corpus Christi, awarded them a plaque for their faithful service. Everyone was very sad to see them go. We thank God for their service to the Lord in Venezuela. Our last theological education by extension meeting took place on 7th and 8th of this month. One of the principal points on the agenda was the need for having a national as the rector of this program. Up until the present time, the rector has always been a missionary. Times of transition are always difficult. At the same time they are necessary as we give the responsibility to the national church. A great challenge that the national church has is that of choosing their own national rector. Reverend James Tino, currently our missionary in Barquisimeto, has accepted a call from the BFMS to be area director for the Caribbean region. Personally, we are sorry to see that he and his family will have to leave Venezuela in June of 2001. We do rejoice that the Lord will be using him in a very special way. May the Lord bless him as he carries out his duties in his new position! We give thanks for: * The starting of our building project. * Our new deacons, who are faithfully carrying out their duties in their congregations. * Kathy's birthday, that we celebrated on the 30th of this month. * The faithful service of the Mielkes in Venezuela. We pray for: * The newly elected Venezuelan national government. * Our Venezuelan national pastors who are at a retreat with their wives. * Edmund and Frida Mielke, who will be leaving Venezuela on the 2nd of August. * The theological education program as it makes its transition to national leadership. * Missionary James Tino and his new position of area director. It is our contention that those who truly hold to the ~Book of Concord~ as the pure exposition of Holy Scripture and the true confession of the Christian faith are also the most zealous supporters of the preaching of the Gospel in every corner of the world and, as such, ought to be kept thoroughly informed of how those endeavors are faring and shown how they may be rightly carried out without the destruction of orthodox doctrine and practice that some within the pale of Lutheranism now advocate.
