INFORMATIONAL REPORT

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

The Board of directors of the Evangelical Lutheran Mission in Khakassia (ELMK) is glad to inform you, that effective April 30, 1999 the Ministry of Justice of Khakassia performed a re-registration of our Mission according to the new Russian "Law On Freedom Of Conscience And On Religious Associations". And now we have received all the documents that confirm this re-registration.

We were also given the registration for our congregation - Transfiguration Lutheran church. Both the Mission and the church have now been registered as 'religious organizations' that have all the rights offered by that law.

In spite of this the Procurator's Office of Khakassia undertook one more attempt to cancel the ELMK. As you remember, the Supreme Court of Khakassia considered this case twice and made two opposite verdicts. September 23, 1998 the verdict about the cessation of the state registration of the ELMK was carried out. February 12, 1999 the same Court refused to satisfy the suit of the Procurator's Office (after the consideration of this case in the Supreme Court of Russian Federation).

So, on May 11 the session of the Civic College of the Supreme Court of Russian Federation, on which the verdict to decline the suit of the Procurator's Office of Khakassia was issued, took place. The session lasted 30 minutes, which is rather long for this kind of cases. Co-chairmen of the Slavic Legal Center Mr. Anatoly V. Pchelintsev and Mr. Vladimir V. Ryakhovsky represented our interests there.

Khakassian Lutherans are thankful to all who prayed for us, who provided us with informational and financial support and who keep doing that now.

Thank you, and may God bless you!

Rev. Pavel Zayakin,

ELMK director.

The CLiMB e-letter brings you unedited, uncut reports directly from the mission field--South America, Eastern and Western Europe, Africa, Asia, inner-city or rural America, college campuses, military installations and battle sites around the world, and more. It is our contention that those who truly hold to the Book of Concord as the pure exposition of Holy Scripture and the true confession of the Christian faith are also the most zealous supporters of the preaching of the Gospel in every corner of the world and, as such, ought to be kept thoroughly informed of how those endeavors are faring and shown how they may be rightly carried out without the destruction of orthodox doctrine and practice that some within the pale of Lutheranism now advocate.
