From: To: Subject: CLIMB: Update on Persecuted LCMSer in China Date: Friday, November 02, 2001 12:27 PM [I just received this VERIFIABLY TRUE story on 7/21/01. Do *not* 'pass it on', etc., just pray as asked. Thank you. EJG] We just came back from a 3 hour meeting with Gao Zhan's husband, Xue Donghua and their five-year-old son, Andrew. She is the Chinese woman who has been held in prison for false charges of a crime we are not sure of. She has been there since February. She is a permanent resident of the US. Her husband and son are citizens. They were in China to visit relatives, were in the airport, 50 feet from the check-in counter, when all three were grabbed by the police. All three were held separately. Donghua and Andrew were released after 26 days. No communication with Zhan has been allowed. This family belongs to St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Falls Church, VA. Her trial date is Tuesday. At the end of that day, Donghua will know if she will be imprisoned longer or if she will be released. Colin Powell will visit China at the end of the month. We hope this will encourage them to release Zhan. As LCMS 2nd VP Wallace Schulz prayed with the convention on Friday, please pray that the prison doors will be opened on Tuesday for Gao Zhan. And, not only that she be released, but that she be sent home to the US immediately. One other Chinese American who was being held has been released from prison, but has not yet been allowed to return to the US. - - - EJG ________________________________________________________________________ The Rev. It is our contention that those who truly hold to the ~Book of Concord~ as the pure exposition of Holy Scripture and the true confession of the Christian faith are also the most zealous supporters of the preaching of the Gospel in every corner of the world and, as such, ought to be kept thoroughly informed of how those endeavors are faring and shown how they may be rightly carried out without the destruction of orthodox doctrine and practice that some within the pale of Lutheranism now advocate.
